Question 1

What does our POS System include?

Accepted Answer

Checkout, product catalogue, table and order management, staff accounts and permissions, inventory, customer profiles, receipts and sales reporting. Payment terminals are connected through licensed payment providers. During a demo we confirm which features and devices are available for your setup.

Question 2

Which hardware do I need?

Accepted Answer

Typically a tablet or touchscreen terminal, a receipt printer and a supported card terminal. Some businesses add a kitchen display, cash drawer or barcode scanner. We recommend hardware after understanding your layout and volume, and only list devices we have confirmed with the relevant provider.

Question 3

Can I keep my current card terminal?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes. It depends on whether your provider offers an integration method for that device. If it does not, the POS can still record card sales manually, but amounts will not be sent to the terminal automatically.

Question 4

Does the POS work if the internet goes down?

Accepted Answer

Offline behaviour is a core design requirement: orders and cash sales should continue and sync when the connection returns. Card payments depend on the terminal and provider — many terminals need connectivity to authorise. We explain the exact behaviour for your configuration before go-live.

Question 5

What kind of software do you build?

Accepted Answer

Web applications, internal tools, customer portals, SaaS products, mobile apps, ecommerce platforms, POS extensions and integrations between existing systems. The common thread is software that fits a real operational workflow.

Question 6

Who owns the code?

Accepted Answer

Ownership terms are set in the contract. Our standard position is that you own the code written for your project once it is paid for, with any third-party or open-source components under their own licences.

Question 7

Do you work with existing teams?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can lead a project end to end, work alongside your in-house developers, or take over and stabilise an existing codebase.

Question 8

How long does a project take?

Accepted Answer

It depends on scope. A focused marketing website or integration might take a few weeks; a first release of a custom platform typically takes a few months. We give a timeline after discovery, broken into milestones you can review.

Question 9

How do you estimate cost?

Accepted Answer

We start with a short discovery to understand goals, users and constraints. From that we produce a scoped proposal with phases, assumptions and a price range. We do not publish fixed prices because scope varies too much between projects.

Question 10

Can we start small?

Accepted Answer

Usually that is the best approach. A first release that solves the most painful problem gets real feedback sooner and makes later phases cheaper to get right.

Question 11

What can AI realistically do for my business?

Accepted Answer

Well-defined tasks with clear inputs: answering questions from your documentation, extracting fields from invoices or forms, classifying and routing messages, drafting replies for review, and summarising long records. It is less reliable for open-ended decisions, which should stay with people.

Question 12

What data do you need?

Accepted Answer

The documents, records or examples the assistant should work from, plus examples of good and bad outputs. We assess data quality and privacy constraints during discovery.

Question 13

How do you keep AI outputs safe?

Accepted Answer

We ground answers in your sources, restrict access by permission, add human approval for actions, log usage, and test against realistic examples before launch. We also choose providers whose terms match your data requirements.

Question 14

Is Smile Software a payment provider?

Accepted Answer

No. Payments are processed by licensed payment service providers and acquirers. We build the software integration between your POS, website or app and the provider you contract with.

Question 15

Which payment providers do you work with?

Accepted Answer

We evaluate providers per project based on your country, business type, devices and volume. Providers such as Adyen, Mollie and Stripe publish APIs for in-person and online payments; whether one is right for you depends on onboarding eligibility and fees, which you agree directly with the provider.

Question 16

Who handles my card data?

Accepted Answer

Card data is captured by the provider's certified terminal or hosted payment fields, so it does not pass through our software. This keeps your PCI DSS scope smaller.

Question 17

What happens after launch?

Accepted Answer

We offer maintenance and support agreements covering monitoring, security updates, bug fixes and small improvements, with response times agreed in writing.

Question 18

Can you support software you did not build?

Accepted Answer

Yes, after an initial audit. We review the codebase, infrastructure and documentation, then propose a stabilisation plan before taking on support.
