Compatible hardware
These are the device categories a POS System setup typically uses. We recommend specific models only after confirming them with the relevant payment provider and testing them with the software.
On compatibility: card terminals depend entirely on the payment provider you choose. We don't list specific terminal models until they're verified for your provider and country.
A countertop tablet or all-in-one touchscreen running the main till.

Checkout
Tap tiles, search, or scan a barcode.
Required choices and extras, priced correctly.
Discounts, customer, table and notes.
Amount sent to the terminal, or cash recorded.
Printed, emailed, or skipped.
Product catalogue
Products, variants, modifiers, allergens and tax rules are structured — so the till, the kitchen ticket and the online menu always agree.
Order management
Counter, table, QR and online orders share one list and reach the right kitchen station, with prep times visible at a glance.
Restaurant table management
A live floor plan shows who's seated, who's ordered and who's waiting to pay — and for how long.
Retail checkout
Barcode-first checkout for shops: the scanner adds the exact variant, returns start from the original receipt, and baskets can be parked while a customer tries something on.
Barcode and SKU search
Linked returns and exchanges
Gift receipts
Parked sales
Inventory and stock
Sales, returns, wastage and transfers update stock immediately. Reorder points flag what's running low before service, not during it.
Customer profiles and loyalty
Attach a customer to the order in seconds, see their usual and apply rewards — with marketing consent recorded separately.
Staff accounts and permissions
Personal PINs, role-based permissions and manager approvals for sensitive actions. Clock in and out from the till, and see sales per staff member.
Discounts and promotions
Set the rules once. The till applies them correctly, and anything outside the rules needs approval.

Sales analytics
Daily summaries, product mix, staff performance and location comparison — readable on a phone, detailed enough for the monthly review.
Multi-location operations
Central catalogue and prices with local overrides, staff who work across sites with one login, and stock transfers that are recorded on both sides.
Online and in-store
Online orders, QR table orders and in-store sales share the same products, prices and stock — and land in the same kitchen queue.
Payment terminal integration
Our POS System sends the amount to a connected terminal and records the result against the order. The payment itself is processed by a licensed payment provider you contract with.

Providers we can evaluate
Providers such as Adyen, Mollie and Stripe publish APIs for in-person payments. We assess fit per project — country, device, volume and onboarding — and describe an integration as available only once it has been built and verified.
Cloud terminal API
The POS sends a payment request to the provider's cloud, which forwards it to the terminal. Works across networks; needs internet connectivity.
Local network integration
The POS talks to a supported terminal directly on the shop network. Can reduce latency; supported only for specific devices and providers.
Provider-hosted checkout
For online orders: the provider hosts the payment page, so card details never touch your site.
Online payments API
Your backend manages payments through the provider's API, with card details collected by the provider's own components.
Integrations and APIs
Events for orders, payments and stock let other systems react in near real time. Integrations beyond Smile products are scoped per project.
